Established in Uganda in 1991 as an independent, locally registered, child focused organisation, SOS Children’s Villages Uganda is part of SOS Children's Villages International; a non-governmental and non-denominational child-care organisation. SOS Children’s Villages Uganda is headed by Olive Birungi Lumonya, National Director. Having operated in Uganda for the last 25 years, SOS boasts of over 60,000 children and 1,500 families countrywide as beneficiaries of their programmes.
The organisation provides all round family-based care for children who have lost parental care. SOS also implements family strengthening programs to support vulnerable families to become independent and autonomous so they can be in position to raise their children on their own thus preventing child-family separations.
