CCM set for clean sweep in Zanzibar

Unguja/Pemba. Chama Cha Mapinduzi was eying a clean sweep in the presidential, House of Representatives and civic seats in yesterday’s controversial General Election rerun.
The incumbent party was virtually guaranteed victory as the elections were boycotted by nine other parties including the largest opposition outfit, the Civic United Front (CUF) with which they were partners in Government of National Unity (GNU).
There was unprecedented low turnout of voters as CUF leadership had urged its members and supporters to stay away. The voter turnout was particularly pathetic in Pemba, the traditionally CUF stronghold, where only a paltry section of the electorate showed up at polling centres.
